The nature of local search
Local search has been undergoing a transformation. We have noticed a complete fluctuation of results which have prompted us to design an upgrade to our small business seo system. So far the changes have yielded great improvements in placement and so I wanted to share a bit of the background.
Traditionally, local search has been based around the fundamental keyword search such as “SEO” – with the addition of a location (i.e. “Ipswich SEO”). This tended to yield a selection of results which were very well matched to the subject, but were a) easily skewed depending on keyword focus, and b) not well matched to searcher preferred destination. The majority of searchers including location detail are looking for service or product related sites as opposed to knowledge based alternatives. The other problem has been that local searchers only enter the basic search term i.e. “SEO” and do not find relevant local results. With the rise of the iGoogle model this means that searcher location is visible to the search engines and results can be tailored in a new local search model.
Google has been gradually moving towards this model with Google Maps and, more recently, Local Search. This should be fantastic news for search engine optimisation, with improved local listings but there have been some fundamental snags. The results have been inconsistent, both as a result of incompatible optimisation, and the fact that they have used IP address locality as a one-size-fits-all marker. For example, if you are searching for us in Ipswich, Suffolk then under the IP address locality you would find us listed in Brentwood, Essex!
Luckily, using new optimisation techniques, these problems can be largely overcome. More difficult to resolve is national exposure where Google place such considerable priority on local search. The job of the SEO does not get easier!
Are you a small or medium business based in the Ipswich or Suffolk area? Do you run a website and would like to increase the number of visitors to your site?
We are the UK small business seo specialists and we are based in Ipswich. We like to offer something a little bit special for Ipswich SEO customers and always enjoy the face to face contact that comes as part of the relationship. It helps us get up to speed on your requirements and marketing strategy and therefore informs the whole seo process.
As with any locally targeted customer group, Ipswich SEO is no different and we have strictly limited places – one for each business type. For all our customers we aim extremely high and therefore it would not make sense to overlap on keywords or other specifications.
Why is local search so important? 60% of searches on Google aimed at locating small businesses, and hugely weighted clicks for the top spots sends an important message – there are potential customers finding your competitors if you are not ranking high in the search engines. Trying to locate local services and the benefits that come to business from a high position, means that local search is set to become more competitive, with greater benefits for the company that achieves its goals.
We take a lot of pleasure in helping local businesses succeed. Our small business SEO packages are designed around your business and we can accelerate or maintain your position depending on the competition in your industry. We guarantee the quality of our work and we deliver exceptional results for all our clients.
So if you are looking for SEO services in Ipswich contact us now and see how we can help you grow.
